Vidya Gyan is pleased to organize a walk by Empowered Women in Saree (e-WinS) in the India Fest Parade on August 12 to raise awareness and make a pledge to narrow the significant gaps in girls’ education in rural India. The empowered girls through education, future mothers, will empower their families. We ask everyone to join in this effort- e-WinS and family members in Indian attire, if possible.
Vidya Gyan’s booth in the India Fest will highlight the iconic Sarees and teach how to wrap/wear a Saree. We believe that e-WinS is one of many ways to represent India’s regional diversity and the grace of empowered women in Minnesota. Come and celebrate India’s Independence Day and the IAM’s 50th anniversary with us in a unique style.
Vidya Gyan, for example, has provided Smart TVs so that the underserved students in rural government schools can be connected with the rest of the world for better learning opportunities.
The individuals sharing their knowledge are the “Scholars” and the beneficiaries are the “Schoolers.” Our focus is on the learning of the younger children (the Schoolers in lower grades) by the youth ( typically the High School students) but not at the exclusion of working professionals. The examples will also include university/college students from prestigious institutions, or from medical/professional programs who are willing to share their journey (The Scholars) with aspiring students/parents (the Schoolers), and professionals in various industries sharing their insight with youth/adults about their successful careers.
S2S is not a “one size fits all” initiative but has the potential for enrichment at all levels with no disciplinary, topical, or geographical boundaries. A concept that began with one Youth Ambassador in the summer of 2019 has now blossomed to include about a dozen volunteer Scholars who have offered as many learning camps to hundreds of Schoolers in grades ranging from 2-8. These learning camps have included the sciences, mathematics, creative writing, chess, technology, and more.
